Hagen Travel Diary 1930

A preserved, handwritten diary from the early 1930s recorded a remarkable journey halfway around the world. Fifty years later, the client and her husband retraced her parents’ steps, creating a second collection of photographs and memories. The book brings the two adventures together, allowing past and present to travel alongside one another. I sourced a historical map appropriate to the original journey, with historically accurate place names including Ceylon and Kashmir. This became the cornerstone of the design. Enlarged and cropped sections introduce different stages of the journey, creating a visual thread that carries throughout the book.
